I enjoy soft tissue surgery (spays, neuters, cystotomies), and I like the investigative aspect of figuring out what’s wrong with a pet. But I also enjoy just the routine things – being able to really chat with clients.
I have only one pet right now – a Rhodesian Ridgeback who is (an) 140-pound giant. He runs like a Greyhound and is as big as a Mastiff!
I have always enjoyed animals and was fascinated with them. As a kid, I would catch things in the yard and whatnot. And then I knew I wanted to do medicine, so it was a choice between this and pediatrics. It was always the voiceless ones, I guess, who were the ones I wanted to help. And I just like to get dirty, I guess!
I think I would credit my success to being a lifelong learner and really learning from whoever I’m around. I don’t have any specific mentor, but I’ve always tried to learn as much as I could
from every veterinarian that I’ve worked with.
